Most of us look forward to the holidays—a time to reflect, a time to reconnect with family and friends, and a time to celebrate new beginnings. But it is also a time of increased stress and anxiety from financial pressures, loneliness, and unrealistic expectations. If left unchecked, stress and anxiety can be overwhelming and lead to gradually withdrawing from those around us, disconnecting, and eventually isolation.
At Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services our mission is to ensure that veterans and their families can succeed where they live—we are a resource for individuals and organizations who share the same mission. We use ideas, influence, and actions to assist our partners transform the lives of service members, veterans, and their families, ensuring they reach their full potential.
We have adopted a comprehensive approach to wellness that is positive and affirming and guards against the disconnection, loneliness, and isolation that plagues some of our veterans and families during this time of the year. This includes partnering with and assisting organizations and programs that focus on emotional, social, and spiritual wellness and have resources to combat the disconnection and isolation associated with the holidays.
Partners that include Vets4Warriors, a national 24/7-peer support network for veteran and military communities 100% staffed by trained veterans and members of the military community, their families or caregivers; Cohen Veterans Network, a philanthropic organization that provides high-quality, accessible, and integrated mental health care to active-duty, veterans, and their families; and iHeartRadio's Show Your Stripes, a one-stop resource of organizations and programs focused on the well-being of anyone touched by military service.
This is what Dixon Center does—increasing the impact of existing programs to ensure veterans succeed where they live; not just survive, but to thrive.
